Alev Ersan (b. 1980) was born in Turkey, and raised between Kyrenia and Istanbul. After completing her BA in English Literature at Boğaziçi University, she moved to Canada and studied with Miranda Pearson, Betsy Warland and Wayde Compton at the SFU Writer’s Studio in Vancouver in 2006. She was also involved with the collective, Kootenay School of Writing in producing a series of literary events. Alev co-founded Thrice Upon, an installation theatre group based in Vancouver in 2005 and produced five interactive plays until 2007.
She has most recently collaborated with artist Tejal Shah in creating an animated work for Between the Waves for dOCUMENTA(13). She has published poetry and prose in emerge anthology, CanLit and FRONT magazine and has translated the novel Automated Alice into Turkish, published by Postiga Press in 2010. Alev currently teaches English at Kadir Has University and special topic courses focusing on experimental writing at Boğaziçi University, both in İstanbul, and is working on her first book of fiction.
