John Angliss is a professional literary and technical translator from Turkish to English. He has experience translating a wide range of literature, from poetry and drama to novels and short stories. Most recently, he translated Ekrem Eylisli’s short story “The Polecat” from Azeri Turkish for Index on Censorship together with Denis Ferhatovic. In collaboration with Maureen Freely, he translated the novels Reckless and Shadowless by Hasan Ali Toptaş. In 2011, he was awarded the British Council Turkey Young Translator’s Prose Prize, while Reckless won a 2014 Pen Translates award. He lives in Ankara with his two cats, Tomris and Bihter.
