Latife Tekin

Latife Tekin was born in 1957. Her first novel Sevgili Arsiz Olum (1983), about the struggles of a family that had to migrate to the big city, told in fairytale style from a young girl’s point of view, was later published in English translation as Dear Shameless Death (Marion Boyars, 2000). Her other novels to appear in English are Berji Kristin: Tales from the Garbage Hills (Marion Boyars, 1993) and Swords of Ice (Marion Boyars, 2007), while her other books published in Turkish include Ask Isaretleri (1995), Ormanda Ölüm Yokmuş (2001), Unutma Bahçesi (2004), and Muinar (2006). She also wrote the play Bir Yudum Sevgi (1984), and a memoir of life in the academy for writers she established in Gümüşlük on Turkey’s southern coast, called Gümüşlük Akademisi (1997). Her work has been translated into Dutch, English, French, German and Italian.
