Venke Vik

Venke Vik studied at University of Oslo and the University of Cambridge. Her thesis was The Thematic Function of the Social Structure in Shakespeare´s Plays, submitted in 1973.

Her work experience has been connected to primary and secondary education, first as a teacher. She was also involved in union work at county and national level in the 1980s. During the past 20 years she worked as the principal of a middle sized secondary school, project leader and finally adviser for the Director of Secondary Education in the County of Nordland in Norway. Heavily involved in school development from the 1980s, Vik has written extensively on various aspects of education. For the last ten years of her career, she wrote documents for presentation to the political assembly of the County of Nordland.

She has translated Latife Tekin’s Dear Shameless Death (tr. Saliha Paker and Mel Kenne) into Norwegian (not published) and short stories by Mine Söğüt. She is currently engaged in learning Turkish.
